Temporary Trail Closure

Fremont Sanitation District (FSD) will be temporarily closing the easterly most section of the Arkansas River Trail (the Trail), starting Monday, November 21, 2011. The trail expected to remain closed through early spring, 2012 (see included map).

The closure is necessary as a safety precaution during the replacement of an existing sanitary sewer main buried in the area. This area will be closed to all non construction traffic. The Trail was constructed along, and on top of, the pre-existing Lincoln Park Trunk sanitary sewer (the Sewer), which provides sewer service to the Lincoln Park area. The existing Sewer was built in the mid 1970’s, and has now exceeded its useful life expectancy and capacity. It is necessary to replace it with a larger diameter pipe, constructed of modern materials. This endeavor, which includes the replacement of 2,000 feet of the existing Sewer, is Phase-1 of a 2-phase project. Phase-2 will include the replacement of the remaining 3,000 feet of the old sewer pipe.

Please check back for periodic project updates and photos. More information is available by contacting FSD at 719-269-9050.
